The Glass Combat Boot
A Gender-Inclusive Pop Goth Circus Fairytale Retelling
In the realm of Cerceau, the royal sovereigns are beside themselves when they discover their teenage hier, Ashe, has misplaced one of their glass combat boots after a night out dancing. A royal decree is sent far and wide announcing a grand reward to whomever safely returns the glass boot in one piece. Down on their luck and full of self-pity after their “happily ever after’s” did not pan out as they expected, three princexes–Rory, RuPunzel, and White Skye–team up to rescue the descendent in distress. They fight their way through an Enchanted Forest filled with trolls and dragons and things far scarier than monsters–their own insecurities. Fortunately, they have the blessing and gifts of their Fairygodparent to aid them on their journey. Will they be able to overcome their inner demons and rescue the coveted combat boot? Only time will tell.
The Glass Combat Boot combines several classic tales into a new narrative where gender roles are meaningless and falling in love is inconsequential to the plot. This gender-inclusive fantasy retelling takes place in front of a pop goth inspired artistic backdrop, filled with goth pop culture music across multiple decades and enough black eyeliner to make Green Day proud. Oh, and it’s a circus, literally.
Mirrors dance, wisps fly, and wolves tumble in this narrative contemporary circus show presented by Circus Scorpius and created by local award-winning writer-director Kelsey Aicher.
